A drama like 'Ribbon' should be made more often in India
CAST: Kalki Koechlin, Sumeet Vyas
DIRECTION: Rakhee Sandilya
GENRE: Social Drama
Rating: 3.5/5
A good movie is when emotions are being expressed without any melodrama or emotional songs running in the background. Ribbon is one of such movie which is relatable and convincing due to its performances.
Sahana (Kalki Koechlin) & Karan ( Sumeet Vyas ) are a young working couple living in Mumbai. The story of Sahan & Karan starts where most of the Bollywood movies end, here the story shows the life after marriage & especially changes which takes place after the child comes in the life. Balancing the work-life & personal life becomes difficult. We see the attitude of the Corporate world towards highly productive women employee who is forced to doubt her abilities just because she gave birth to a baby.
You as an audience get involved with these characters and feel for their struggle. The second half of the film shows another phase of the parenthood which will really question the today's problem towards trusting anyone with your kid.
The casting of this movie has won half the race. both the lead actors & the child actor who plays Aashi in the film have done a great job. Though the movie may look weak on script the debutant director Rakhi Sandilya has pulled off the movie really very well without making it sound like a social documentary or taking the side of any one character. Visually the movie is not lavish or stunning but it keeps you hooked into the plot.
Go watch Ribbon if you're looking for a drama which is realistic away from the regular dose entertainment which includes your favorite mainstream stars.
