Need of 'Mantoiayt' in Indian Cinema
The Bollywood or the mainstream Hindi cinema is obsessed with biopics of gangsters, actors, sports stars. The stories have never been focused on poets, writer or artists of other than popular culture. There is nothing wrong in making movies based on Chetan Bhagat's novel but is that the only literature we are being left in this country of stories about vivid culture.
Nandita Das is proclaimed Actor & Director who directed'Firaq' based on Gujarat 2002 riots starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Nandita announced the movie based on Saadat Hasan Manto one of the finest short story writers of Asia. A movie on Manto had already being attempted in Pakistan.
First-look footage from the film was shown to prospective buyers at Cannes Fim Festival this year, Nandita has been regular at the festival for her contribution to independent projects. HP studio is co-producing with Viacom 18 and Sameer Dixit of Movie Makers.
It will be interesting to look at the response from the international audience & from the audience at home to this biographical film about a controversial writer
